Review on the albums Yo-Yo Ma plays Ennio Morricone & Mireille Mathieu chante Ennio Morricone

Two years ago, I received two CDs from a friend of mine. Both were by a famous French composer Ennio Morricone. One was a record of French cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and the other was recorded by French singer Mireille Mathieu. When I played Yo-Yo Ma’s album, I was absorbed in it. The music was very delicate, soft, and touched. Yo-Yo Ma’s cello sounds were well-balanced with the orchestra’s abundant sounds. It contains 18 tracks, all of which are the sound tracks of films. Yo-Yo Ma sometimes played strongly, which feels like huge waves rushing to me and his soft sounds seem to tell a sorrowful story to me.

On Mireille Mathieu’s CD, on the other hand, she sings 10 songs of Ennio Morricone. Mireille Mathieu has a little husky voice which is very attractive.  When I first listen to her music, it was like a volcano which was spewing out lava, and like a spear which was piercing through my heart. In addition to these, her unique French vibrations are so sentimental that I can be soaked with the melancholy mood. She sings passionately but her music feels cold. Morricone’s soft melodies are well-harmonized by the trembling voice. I would like to recommend these two albums to those who love music.
